Los Angeles Lakers star and scoring champion LeBron James recently broke a record, with his total number of appearances rising to second in NBA history.
In the Los Angeles Lakers' 112-97 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, LeBron James started and completed his 1,561st regular-season appearance, contributing 27 points, 3 assists and 7 rebounds.
James officially surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and took the second place in the NBA's all-time appearances. The current player with the most appearances is Robert Parish, who is 1,611 ahead of James.
The 40-year-old James has played for three teams, including 849 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers, 294 games for the Miami Heat, and 418 games for the Los Angeles Lakers. On November 16 last year, James had just entered the top five in the all-time appearance list, and now he is only 51 games away from the first place in history.
If James continues to play next season, it will be his 23rd NBA season. Given James' physical condition, it is only a matter of time before he becomes the No. 1 in total appearances, because James has played at least 55 games per season in the past four seasons.
The Los Angeles Lakers currently have two regular season games left, and are ranked third in the Western Conference with a record of 49 wins and 31 losses, and have already qualified for the playoffs. This may mean that James will be rested in the final game of the regular season to reserve his energy for the playoffs.
