The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame will welcome a new class of members in 2025, the most notable of which is undoubtedly former NBA scoring champion and ten-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony stood in the center of the stage. He shed tears at one point and reviewed his journey from the streets of Brooklyn to the basketball hall of fame with words full of emotion and power.
"Tonight, I'm not just walking into the Hall of Fame," Anthony said. "I'm carrying the voices that told me no. I'm walking through every alley, every broken court, every missed dinner. I'm representing the dreamers, the doubted, the overlooked. I'm standing for the souls trapped in the same places I once broke free from."
In his speech, 41-year-old Anthony repeatedly emphasized the power of dreams and perseverance. He admitted that while growing up, he was often told not to aim too high or to stay within his own boundaries. This, he explained, is precisely why he wanted to prove that those who grow up in the shadows either get swallowed up or learn to shine.
During his speech, Anthony specifically addressed young people, reminding them to hone themselves, face setbacks, and trust their inner voice. Anthony said, "You are that whisper inside me that I know there's more for me in this life. Hold on to that voice, it will be tested."
The star who won the scoring title in 2013 and ranks 12th in NBA history with 28,289 points, now etched his legacy in a different way. Anthony's speech was not only a summary of his personal achievements, but also an encouragement and call to action for those who will follow. As he said, "They laughed at me, but today, I stand here."
