According to NBA insider Marc Stein on Thursday, Ben Simmons has parted ways with his agent, Bernie Lee. Some analysts believe that this move may indicate the end of Simmons' career.
Simmons's agency was initially managed by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, but was replaced by Bernie Lee in 2023. Bernie Lee is affiliated with Thread Sports, whose clients include many NBA players such as Jimmy Butler, Kris Dunn, Isaiah Thomas, Mike James and Sean Williams.
Simmons, 29, stands 6'8" tall and weighs 400 kilograms. He plays forward-guard. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft and has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 13.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 31.1 minutes per game, shooting 55.8% from the field and 13.9% from three-point range.
Due to serious back injuries and psychological barriers, Simmons' performance in recent years has not been satisfactory. He played 33 times and 18 times for the Nets and Clippers respectively last season, averaging only 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 52.0%.
Simmons will officially become a free agent after the 2024-25 season. Although teams including the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, and Sacramento Kings have expressed interest in him, he is currently considering whether to continue playing in the NBA.
