Official: Eintracht Frankfurt extends contract with 33-year-old veteran Mario Götze until June 2028.

Frankfurt Motors announced on Wednesday that it has renewed its contract with Mario Götze. The new contract extends the original summer's expiration by two years, until June 30, 2028.

According to Bild, Götze accepted a significant pay cut to stay with the team. His base salary after the contract extension is expected to drop from €3.5 million to just over €2 million, plus bonuses linked to his performance on the field.

The 33-year-old Götze came through the Borussia Dortmund youth academy and made his Bundesliga debut for the first team on November 21, 2009. He then played for Bayern Munich and PSV Eindhoven, and joined Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2022.

To date, Götze has made 148 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 12 goals and providing 18 assists. Including his time at Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and PSV Eindhoven, he has accumulated 558 club appearances, contributing 111 goals and 121 assists, winning one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, five Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, one German Super Cup, one Dutch Cup, and one Dutch Super Cup.

At the national team level, Götze has also achieved remarkable success. From 2010 to 2023, he made 66 appearances for Germany, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists, and won the World Cup with the team in 2014.

Regarding the contract extension, Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting director, Markus Krösche, commented: "Mario is crucial to the team and the club, both competitively and personally. He has experienced many ups and downs in his career and is now eager to share his experience with the team's many young players. His extension demonstrates his unwavering commitment to Frankfurt. Given the approaching new season, his sense of belonging to the club and the city is especially important. We are delighted that Mario will continue to stay with us."

Götze stated, "Frankfurt means a lot to me. I've been here for almost four years now, and it's been a wonderful time. My family and I have had a very comfortable time in Frankfurt. At this stage of my career, I need to consider various factors—I know that a football career is ultimately finite. That's why I cherish every moment on and off the pitch even more. My love for football and the club made me decide to renew my contract. We are currently facing some challenges, but we are ready to overcome them. Who knows what the future holds? I would be very happy if we could win another championship..."
