Tomas Soucek expressed his delight at securing the victory for West Ham United, helping the team to a 3-1 win over Newcastle United. This win was not only the team's first under Nuno Espirito Santo, but also their first home victory of the 2025/26 season. The Czech national team captain came on as a substitute for Callum Wilson in the 61st minute at the London Stadium, using his excellent physicality and versatility to help his team secure the win in the attacking third.  

Lucas Paquetá's brilliant goal and Sven Botman's own goal changed the game, giving West Ham United the upper hand. Earlier, Jacob Murphy had given his team an early lead. West Ham's number 28 then joined the attack, but missed a chance when Freddie Potts was offside as he scored his first professional goal.  

Despite both sides having chances late in the game, it was Tomas Soucek who ultimately scored the winning goal. He reacted quickly, slotting the ball home after Nick Pope saved Jarrod Bowen's shot, giving the home team their third goal and much to the delight of the fans.  

Tomas Soucek said: "Tonight's game was very special for me. I've always been honored to wear the West Ham shirt and am willing to play in any position the manager puts me in. I was in great form today and gave it my all. It's exhilarating to score and win the game, and I believe it means a lot to the fans here and to supporters around the world."  

"It was a real shame that Freddie Potts' goal was disallowed, because I saw how close he came to it immediately after the game. I tried my best to avoid being offside, but I may have touched it with my foot slightly, which was very unfortunate, especially for Freddie Potts. However, the whole team did not give up and it paid off in the end. It was also great for me to be able to secure the victory in the last minute of the game."  

"We know this is a very tough challenge, and we've faced the problems head-on today. Now we must persevere, work hard to turn things around as quickly as possible, and give it our all to achieve this goal. Hopefully, we can draw courage and confidence from this victory and continue this good momentum in our next game on Saturday, so we can meet the fans again."  

Tomas Soucek and West Ham United are set to face newly promoted Premier League side Burnley. Burnley sit one place above West Ham with a three-point lead after the first ten rounds of the season. With attention focused on this match, Soucek will be looking to lead his team to a strong performance at the London stadium and build some positive momentum before the November international break, in order to improve their ranking in the upcoming games.  

Tomas Soček added: “Winning at home is crucial because the home ground should be like a fortress. You want your opponents to have a tough time when they come here, and you also want us to use that as an opportunity to keep going. This is our first win in a long time, and also the first win since my son Daniel was born.”
