In the second round of the 2025/26 Europa League, Bologna hosted Freiburg at home. After 90 minutes of intense play, the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw.

The match began with a back-and-forth between the two teams. In the 17th minute, Ricardo Orsolini sent a low, long pass from the right, and Santiago Castro, after breaking into the penalty area, volleyed the ball into the side netting. In the 21st minute, Philippe True's diagonal cross from the right flank found Philippe Linhardt's header over the crossbar. In the 23rd minute, Maximilian Eggestein's return pass from a corner was met by John Manzembe and Chukbuk Adamu, who both failed to find the net.

In the 29th minute, Bologna finally broke the deadlock: Nicola Cambiaggi took advantage of Linhart's poor control of the ball in the penalty area and fired a powerful shot that forced Noah Atubolu to save. Orsolini immediately shot in to give Bologna a 1-0 lead.

After the break, Freiburg, trailing by a goal, struck first. Patrick Osterhager broke through the frontcourt and passed the ball to the left. Derry Shelhant's shot into the far corner was saved by Lukas Skorupski. In the 54th minute, Matthias Ginter's header from inside the penalty area drew a handball foul from Castro, and Adamu converted the penalty kick to equalize the score for Freiburg.

In the 69th minute, Freiburg had another chance: Manzemby intercepted Federico Bernardeschi's slip and sent a through ball to Shelhant, who faced Skorupski one-on-one, but his shot was saved. Jan-Niklas Best followed up with a shot, but Skorupski saved it again.

After that, neither team made any progress. At the end of the game, Bologna was tied with Freiburg 1-1.
