The Denver Nuggets announced Thursday that David Adelman has officially taken over as head coach after serving as interim head coach for more than a month. According to team policy, the specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.

David Adelman, 44, is the son of NBA Hall of Fame coach Rick Adelman and is known as "Little Adelman." He initially served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Portland Jesus High School, and coached Lincoln High School for five years starting in 2006.

In 2011, Adelman Jr. joined the Minnesota Timberwolves coaching staff at the recommendation of his father. He then served as an assistant coach for a short season in the Orlando Magic, and in 2017 he moved to the Nuggets to continue his work as an assistant coach.

On April 8 this year, Adelman Jr. took over as head coach after Michael Malone was fired. Under his coaching, the Nuggets won all three games in the final stage of the regular season, securing the fourth seed in the Western Conference and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

In the playoffs, the Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games in the first round and successfully advanced to the Western Conference semifinals. However, they lost 3-4 in the tiebreaker against the Oklahoma City Thunder, just one step away from the Western Conference Finals.

Regarding the decision to make Adelman a regular player, Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke explained: "He grew up with the team and understands the technical characteristics of the players. But combined with the current development cycle of our team, it is more important that he understands the players as people and knows their inner driving force and motivation for behavior."

"I was initially open to bringing in an outside coach but then I discovered that the relationships within the squad are very strong. I think that is crucial to the future direction of our team," he concluded.
