According to NBA veteran reporter Jack Fisher on Thursday, Jonathan Kuminga is still seeking to sign a contract with the Golden State Warriors or other teams with an annual salary of at least $25 million. In order to achieve this goal, he is even willing to accept a short-term contract.

Jonathan Kuminga, 22, plays mainly as a forward and was selected by the Warriors with the seventh pick in the first round in 2021. He has played for the Warriors for four seasons so far, during which he played in 258 regular season games, averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 50.7% and a three-point shooting percentage of 33.2%.

Kuminga also played in 34 playoff games for the Warriors, averaging 7.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game, and won the 2022 NBA championship with the team.

As time went on, Kuminga became increasingly dissatisfied with his position in the Warriors. He firmly believed that he had All-Star ability and would be the core of any team's offense in the future. Because of this, the differences between Kuminga and Warriors coach Steve Kerr became more serious.

According to TA reporter Anthony Slater, the Warriors have offered Kuminga a $7.9 million qualifying offer to obtain his priority matching rights. They are also considering sending Kuminga away through a sign-and-trade deal, with the goal of getting a potential rookie plus a first-round pick.

Slater went on to point out that the Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets have all expressed varying degrees of interest in Kuminga. Fisher then added that the Suns have contacted Kuminga's representatives and Warriors management to clearly express their love for the player.

However, the Suns will not be able to control their first-round pick before 2031, further limiting the room for trades. John Gambadoro, a reporter for the Suns, wrote on his personal Twitter: "I won't say it's impossible. The Suns have long been interested in Kuminga. I think the chances of success are not high, but it can't be ruled out completely."

Various signs indicate that Kuminga's stay or departure has become a major highlight of this summer's offseason. It is still unknown whether the Warriors will choose to meet his salary requirements or seek a trade in exchange for returns.
