Mainz complete contract extension with Daniel Batz, Danny da Costa, Dominik Kohr..


Mainz announced on its official website on Saturday that the club has extended the contracts of its goalkeeper Daniel Batz and defenders Danny da Costa and Dominik Kohr.


According to Mainz's official statement, Batz has signed on a new short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2026; Da Costa has signed on a new short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2026, with an option to extend for a further year; while Kohr has signed on a new three-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2028.


After completing his contract extension procedures, Batz, who was interviewed by Mainz's official website again, said: "Although my first season here was during an extremely difficult period for the entire club, this season is the opposite. We have experienced highs and lows, but we finally worked together to overcome them."


"The fans here love this club, just as we saw when we fought for relegation last season, and this incredible support continues in every game this season. Mainz 05 is like a big family, closely connected to the city, and benefiting from each other. I am very happy to continue to be at Die Nullfünfer. I feel like I am part of a big family. "


Da Costa said: "It is an absolute pleasure to come to training every day, to fight on the pitch with this team and to compete for points in the Bundesliga. I have been here for more than four years and we have experienced a lot together during this time. We have suffered a lot together, but we have also celebrated together. I feel that we are building something here and I am happy to continue to contribute to it. "


Meanwhile, Kohr said: "Since the first day I came to Mainz, I felt like home, even though we were in a difficult situation at the time. "


"Since then, we have had some ups and downs, but even in the most difficult times, I never felt that there was a collapse here because everyone in Mainz is united. This club is a great fit for me and I completely identify with Mainz 05. We have experienced incredible rapid development in the past four years and I look forward to continuing to move forward hand in hand with everyone. "


About Daniel Batz


Daniel Batz, 34, was born on January 12, 1991 in Erlangen, Germany. He is 1.89 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper.


At the age of 5, Batz joined the youth academy of non-league club Adelsdorf, and at the age of 12, he joined the Greuther Fürth youth academy. In 2005, he moved to the Nuremberg youth academy. In 2008, he started playing for the Nuremberg reserve team. In 2010, he was promoted to the first team, but he did not get the opportunity to make his first-team debut.


After leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer of the following year, Batz moved to Freiburg as a free agent and completed his Freiburg first-team debut in May of the same year.


After leaving the club  at the end of his contract in the summer of 2015, Batz moved to Chemnitz as a free agent.


In January of the following year, Batz moved to Elversberg as a free agent.


In the summer of 2017, Batz joined Saarbrücken as a free agent.


During the 6 years he played for Saarbrücken, Batz once helped the club reach the DFB-Pokal semi-finals with his outstanding performances.


In July 2023, Batz joined Mainz for €100,000.


Since becoming a member of Die Nullfünfer, Batz has only played 4 times for Mainz across all competitions so far, conceding 3 goals and keeping 1 clean sheet.


About Danny da Costa


Danny da Costa, 31, was born in Neuss, Germany on July 13, 1993. He is 1.87 meters tall and primarily plays as a center back. He can also play as a right back or right midfielder. He has dual nationality of Germany and Angola.


Da Costa joined Bayer Leverkusen's youth academy at the age of 8, and completed his Leverkusen first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Europa League match against Atlético Madrid in December 2010. He was only 17 years old at the time.


In July 2012, Da Costa was loaned-out to Ingolstadt for 2 years, and his ownership was officially bought out in the summer of 2014.


During his four-year spell at Ingolstadt, Da Costa once attracted the attention of Red Bull Salzburg due to his outstanding performances.


In July 2016, Da Costa returned to Leverkusen for 500,000, but did not get playing opportunities.


In July of the following year, Da Costa joined Eintracht Frankfurt for 1 million.


During his five-year spell with Die Adler, Da Costa won the Europa League once and the DFB-Pokal once with the club.


In January 2021, Da Costa was loaned-out to Mainz.


After leaving the club at the end of his contract the following summer, Da Costa joined Mainz permanently as a free agent.


Since becoming a member of Die Nullfünfer, Da Costa has played 129 times for Mainz in all competitions so far, scoring 9 goals and providing 20 assists.


About Dominik Kohr


Dominik Kohr, 31, was born in Trier, Germany on January 31, 1994. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily plays as a center back. He can also play as a defensive midfielder. His father and younger sister are both professional football players and play as center forwards.


Kohr joined the youth training system of youth academy of non-league club Issel at the age of 6, and joined the Bayer Leverkusen youth academy at the age of 12. He began to play for the Leverkusen reserve team in 2012 and completed his Leverkusen first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in April 2012.


In January 2014, Kohr was loaned-out to Augsburg, and his ownership was officially bought out in the summer of the following year.


In July 2017, Kohr returned to Leverkusen for 1.5 million.


In July 2019, Kohr joined Frankfurt for 8.5 million.


In January 2021, Kohr was loaned-out to Mainz, and his ownership was officially bought out in May of the following year.


Since becoming a member of Die Nullfünfer, Kohr has played 133 times for the Bundesliga super dark horses in all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 5 assists.
