Girona announced on its official website on Sunday that Aston Villa's Spanish left-wing back Àlex Moreno has joined the club on a free transfer.
According to the La Liga club's official statement, Moreno has signed on a short-term two-year deal which will only run until the summer of 2027.
About Àlex Moreno
Àlex Moreno, 32, was born on June 8, 1993, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. He is 1.79 meters tall and primarily plays as a left-wing back, but can also play as a left winger.
Moreno joined the youth academy of Villafranca, a lower-division club in Barcelona as a child. He then joined Barcelona's prestigious La Masia youth academy in the summer of 2011, but was released a year later.
After leaving Barcelona, Moreno played for Agostera and Mallorca, playing a key role in the latter's survival from relegation in the Segunda División in the 2013/14 season.
In the summer of 2014, Moreno joined Rayo Vallecano on a free transfer and made his La Liga debut with the team in September of that year. He was also loaned-out to Elche in August 2015.
After returning from his loan spell in the summer of 2016, Moreno officially became a key player for Rayito, leading the club to promotion from the Segunda División in the 2017/18 season.
At the end of August 2019, Moreno moved to Real Betis for €7 million.
During his-three-and-a-half-year spell with Los Verdiblancos, Moreno won the Copa del Rey once with Real Betis.
In January 2023, Moreno joined Aston Villa for £13.2 million.
The following August, Moreno was loaned-out to Nottingham Forest.
Last season, Moreno played 19 times for the Premier League club in all competitions and provided 1 assist.
