Sky Sports Germany reported on Wednesday that the news that Real Madrid star Raul might coach Borussia Mönchengladbach is not true.
Borussia Mönchengladbach sacked coach Gerardo Servane earlier this month following a poor start to the season, and subsequently appointed U23 coach Eugen Polanski to temporarily take charge of the first team while they launched the search for a new head coach.
The rumor about Raul joining Borussia Mönchengladbach first came from a report in Bild, which stated that Raul had not only been recommended to Borussia Mönchengladbach by his agent, but that he was also ready to take over the team at any time.
In July this year, Raúl officially bid farewell to Real Madrid's youth system after seven years of service. Since 2018, he has been in charge of Real Madrid's C team and the U18 team, and was eventually promoted to head coach of the reserve team Castilla.
During this period, Raul had a strong desire to take over the Real Madrid first team. When Xabi Alonso became the Real Madrid coach, he finally decided to look for coaching opportunities in other leagues.
However, the Bild report was immediately denied by Raul's team. Raul's agent, Gines Carvajal, and his intermediary in Germany, Alexis Portcelis, told Sky Sports: "We cannot confirm the Bild report and can tell you that we never offered Raul to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The report is not true!"
Sky Sports Germany has also learned that Borussia Mönchengladbach is also not interested in hiring Raul as first-team coach. If Polanski gets the team back on track, Borussia Mönchengladbach would not rule out the possibility of him becoming their permanent manager.
