Liverpool head coach Arne Slot personally announced on Friday that Northern Ireland international right-back Conor Bradley will replace vice-captain, England international right-wing back Trent Alexander-Arnold who is about to leave the club, as Liverpool's starting right-back for the rest of the season.
Slot made the above announcement when attending the club's matchday 36 match of the 2024/25 Premier League season against Arsenal on Sunday.
Slot said that this decision is not only to prepare for the team who will be losing Alexander-Arnold next season, as he said last week, because players like Bradley, Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez who just returned from injury and others who have not often been given much opportunity to play this season, deserve a fair chance to be given the opportunity to play because of their own efforts.
Slot said: "I think like all the fans around the world who love and support Liverpool, we are disappointed that he (Trent Alexander-Arnold) is about to leave the club because we will not only lose a great human being, but also a very, very good full-back."
"However, in my previous coaching experience at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, I have faced the fact that one very good player, sometimes multiple, who made great contributions to the team leave the club one after another every season, so I think I am used to it in this regard, and I believe this club (Liverpool) is the same."
"When a very, very good player is about to leave, the next very, very good player will naturally replace him, and this should be what will happen from now on."
"In terms of the starting lineup, my plan for this Sunday's game is the same as last week. If Conor had not been injured in the game against Chelsea last week, he should have started already. Unfortunately, he was unable to do so, so I think rhere is a great chance that he will start in the game on Sunday. ”
When asked by reporters how he evaluated Bradley, Slot said: "Please don't compare him with Trent, because I think they are two completely different types of full-backs. I think we all see how great Conor's potential is. Conor is a very talented player. ”
"Unfortunately, he has been plagued by injuries all season. To (continue to) be very, very good player, you must have the ability to play for the team every week. This is the first step he must ensure next season, but we are confident that Conor can become one of the best full-backs in Liverpool's club history, and I think he has already proven this in the past two seasons. ”
In addition, when reporters asked him if he thought Arsenal's Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain was exciting, Slot sarcastically said: "It is indeed very exciting, but a friend asked me whether this game is really so exciting, or just like the game between Inter Milan and Barcelona, there are many golden goalscoring opportunities that can become "Expected Goals (xG)."
"That's why you suddenly see scores like 3-3 and 4-3, and everyone will be like 'wow' at how exciting these two games are. If (you ask me) maybe both sides have the same number of goalscoring opportunities, but obviously not every opportunity will successful turn into goal, it's because the goalkeepers of both sides (are able to make accurate saves successfully)."
Slot's above remarks are exactly the same as what I have pointed out on Tuesday, indirectly satirizing our website's infamously notorious female rumour monger "Ms. Hype Up" who pretends to know and deliberately uses the "Expected Goals (xG)" topic to spread wrong information!
