In the 8th round of the 2025-26 Premier League, Arsenal defeated Fulham 1-0 away, finally breaking the curse of not winning in the past two visits to Craven Cottage.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said in a post-match interview that the victory came from the team's tenacious mentality and overall defensive stability. Arteta said: "I am very satisfied."
"We knew how difficult it was to win here in the past two seasons, and we faced the same challenge again today, but I like the team's mentality. We didn't start well, and a few mistakes allowed the opponent to take the initiative, but the team gradually found the rhythm and regained control of the game."
The victory, secured by Leandro Trossard's crucial second-half goal, was Arsenal's sixth Premier League win of the season, their ninth in all competitions, and their eighth clean sheet.
Arteta stressed that patience and persistence are the keys to victory: "We must remain patient against Fulham. They are tightly organized defensively. We tried a variety of offensive methods. Although the goal came late, the team never gave up."
It is worth mentioning that Trossard's goal makes Arsenal the team with the most goalscorers (10 in total) in the Premier League this season. In this regard, Arteta believes that scoring from multiple points is an important sign of the team's success: "We don't rely on one or two players to score, which shows that the team can create threats from different positions."
“More importantly, we kept a clean sheet again today, without the opponent even having a single shot on target, which laid the foundation for victory. Our forwards performed well in pressing, defending and creating chaos, all of which came from their mentality and commitment.”
With this victory, Arsenal continues to stay at the top of the standings. However, Arteta hopes the team will strive for improvement: "We did well, but we can do better. We will continue to look for details that can be improved to make this team stronger."
