Aston Villa announced on their official website on Wednesday that the club have extended the contract of its captain, Scotland international midfielder John McGinn.
According to Aston Villa's official statement, McGinn has signed on a new three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2028.
About John McGinn
The 31-year-old McGinn was born on October 10, 1994, in Glasgow, Scotland. He is 1.78 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder, but can also play as a left or right midfielder. His two older brothers are also professional footballers; his eldest brother, Stephen, is currently a first-team coach at Falkirk, and his second brother, Paul, plays for Motherwell as a right-back.
McGinn followed in his brothers' footsteps, by joining the St. Mirren youth academy at a young age, and completed his St. Mirren first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in October 2012.
During his three-year spell at St. Mirren, McGinn won the Scottish League Cup once with the club.
In the summer of 2015, McGinn went on trial with Major League Soccer (MLS) club Houston Dynamo, but both sides ultimately did not sign a contract due to issues with foreign player registration. He then transferred to Hibernian.
During his three-year spell at Hibernian, McGinn won the Scottish Championship once and the Scottish Cup once with the club.
In August 2018, McGinn joined Aston Villa for £2.5 million.
Since becoming a member of the Villans, McGinn has made 299 appearances for the Premier League powerhouse in all competitions so far, scoring 33 goals and providing 41 assists, winning the EFL Championship play-off title once with the club.
