Aston Villa released a statement on Friday confirming the signing of Nice striker Even Guessin. The two parties signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
It was also officially confirmed that Ghesan will wear the number 29 jersey at Aston Villa. According to multiple media reports, the base fee for the transfer is approximately 30 million euros, which can reach up to 35 million euros after taking into account floating clauses.
"I'm very happy to be here at Villa. I've been looking forward to this moment for a long time," said Ghesan after signing. "I'm really looking forward to starting the games, meeting the fans and my teammates, and training with them."
Ghesan also pointed out that Unai Emery was one of the key factors that prompted him to join Villa: "I have been following Aston Villa's games in recent seasons and then started communicating with the head coach. Frankly speaking, our conversation was the key. He was the one who really convinced me to join, and we also knew his coaching record very well."
"I met him a long time ago in Ligue 1. He was known for his ability to improve players and that's why I started thinking about joining Villa."
“I’m still young and hungry to grow. I still have a lot to improve, so after speaking with the coach, I’m convinced he’s the right person to help me keep improving.”
The 24-year-old Guessin, born in Ajaccio, France, holds dual French and Ivorian citizenship. He grew up in the Nice youth system and made his first-team debut in the French Cup on January 5, 2020.
Due to a lack of playing opportunities, Guessin has been loaned out to Lausanne Sports and Nantes since 2020. He did not establish himself as a regular starter for Nice until the 2023/24 season, making 109 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists.
