In a life-and-death battle in the NBA playoffs, the Boston Celtics defeated the New York Knicks 127-102 at home at TD Garden, tying the series to 2-3 and keeping their hopes alive. The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Golden State Warriors 4-1 and advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
The Celtics showed strong fighting spirit in the absence of their star player Jayson Tatum. Tatum unfortunately tore his Achilles tendon in the fourth game and underwent surgery to end his season, but the team did not collapse. Derrick White scored a game-high 34 points, Jaylen Brown contributed 26 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds, and the two stars teamed up to lead the Green Army to a crucial victory.
Coach Joe Mazzula said after the game: "We made the efforts needed to win on both offense and defense, and the performance of the players gave us the opportunity to continue fighting."
On the other side, the Timberwolves beat the Warriors 121-110 at home and advanced to the Western Conference Finals with a score of 4-1. Julius Randle scored 29 points and Anthony Edwards contributed 22 points and 12 assists to help the team end the series.
Randle said with emotion: "We have experienced a lot this year, but as Coach Finch said, we did not rashly trade or fire the coach during the season. We chose to unite and face the challenges together. I am very proud of this team."
The Timberwolves will face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals, with the Thunder currently leading 3-2.
