Brighton issued a statement on Tuesday, announcing that 24-year-old Italian central defender Diego Coppola has officially joined. Both parties signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.

Diego Coppola was transferred from Verona for 11 million euros, plus an appearance bonus of up to 1 million euros.

There are also reports that Verona will retain Coppola's 10% share of the secondary transfer.

Coppola grew up in Verona's youth training system and made his debut for the first team in the Italian Cup on December 15, 2021. To date, he has made 85 appearances for Verona and contributed 4 goals.

Earlier this month, Coppola was selected for the Italian national team for the first time due to his stable performance in the club. He also made his debut in the World Cup qualifier against Norway and has played twice so far.

Regarding Coppola's arrival, Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler said: "Diego is an exciting signing. Although he is still young, he has great height, strength and flexibility. He will bring substantial physical advantages to the team."

"His progress in Serie A has been obvious to all and he has been called up to the Italy national team as a result. We look forward to helping him continue to grow," concluded Schülzer.
