September 29th: With the 2025-26 season approaching, the league's guard landscape has once again become a hot topic. Dončić and Shai lead the top tier, and the contrast between young rising stars and established veterans makes the guard strength breakdown for this season even more intriguing.
First Tier
Luka Dončić remains a powerhouse after joining the Lakers, averaging 52.5 points per game. With his offseason conditioning, he's expected to break out again this season. MVP winner Shai Gilgeous - Alexander remains one of the league's top point guards, averaging 32.7 points last season and having just signed a record-breaking contract. Cade Cunningham has joined the elite ranks with averages of 26.1 points, 9.1 assists, and 6.1 rebounds.
Second Tier
Brunson exploded for the Knicks, Mitchell led the Cavaliers to 64 wins, and Trae Young once again led the team in assists. Curry, relegated to the second tier due to his age, remains a formidable force. Edwards, with consecutive All-Star selections, is poised to reach the top ranks of guards this season.
Third Echelon
Fox's move to the Spurs is expected to create chemistry with Wen Banama. Booker has taken on a greater responsibility since Durant's departure, while the health of LaMelo Ball and Morant remains questionable. Harden has rebounded and returned to the All-Star Game, while Green has received a new opportunity with the Suns.
Fourth Echelon
If Maxey can stay healthy, he will continue to be a key piece for the 76ers . Houston rookie Armen Thompson has had a chance to break out following VanVleet's injury. Rivers, LaVine, and Bane are key players in their respective systems.
Fifth Echelon
With Tatum out, Derrick White and Simmons will have to shoulder more responsibilities for the Celtics. Garland will miss the start of the season due to injury, but Giddy's contract extension with the Bulls has given him a more stable role. Herro and Murray remain reliable scoring options for their respective teams.
