Despite losing the game, Rodgers still expressed his understanding for Schmeichel and said that the goalkeeper had taken the initiative to apologize for the mistake.

“He apologised to his team-mates for his mistake but I have to stress that he has been outstanding all season,” added Rodgers.

"It's hard to avoid moments like that. We had one or two more chances after that but we just didn't take them."
