Chelsea announced on its official website on Saturday that the club has signed Argentina international winger wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.
According to Chelsea's official statement, Garnacho has signed on a long-term seven-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2032.
In addition, according to The Athletic's resident renowned English transfer journalist David Ornstein, the Blues paid the Red Devils a £40 million transfer fee to sign Garnacho, and Manchester United will also receive a 10% sell-on clause of the player's furture transfer fees.
After completing the joining procedures, Garnacho, who was interviewed by the Chelsea's official website for the first time, said: "Joining this great club is an incredible moment for me and my family. I can't wait to start my new life."
"I watched the FIFA Club World Cup, and it feels special to be joining this world champion team. We are the best team in the world! It's fantastic to be here, and I'm so happy."
About Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho, who is only 21, was born on July 1, 2004, in Madrid, Spain. He is 1.8 metres tall, he primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play on the right wing. He holds dual Spanish and Argentinian citizenship.
Garnacho played for Getafe's youth academy as a child before joining the youth academy of local rivals Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2015.
In October 2020, Garnacho joined Manchester United's youth system for £420,000. During his time there, he gained reputation by scoring the winning goal in several FA Cup matches at the youth level.
In October 2022, Garnacho completed his Manchester United first-team debut in their Europa League match against Sheriff Tiraspol. Since then, he has become an integral member of the Red Devils' first team, even assisting Marcus Rashford's late winner against Manchester City in the Manchester derby the following January.
However, since 2024, Garnacho has been the subject of controversy for his toxic private behaviour. Most notably, during a post-season friendly in Malaysia, he and teammate Amad Diallo repeatedly gave local fans the finger, earning him harsh criticism from Manchester United legend David Beckham.
Furthermore, after the team lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, he complained about the team's performance, exuding negativity and posting a photo of himself wearing an Aston Villa jersey on social media, which completely ruptured his relationship with manager Ruben Amorim and the fans.
During his three-year spell with the Red Devils, Garnacho made 144 appearances for the Premier League giants in all competitions, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists. During which he has won the FA Cup once and the Carabao Cup once, and reached the Europa League final once with the club.
