Official: Villa winger Leon Bailey joins Roma on loan with buyout clause

Roma officially announced on Wednesday that they have loaned winger Leon Bailey from Aston Villa until the end of the 2025/26 season. Bailey will wear the number 31 jersey at Roma and the contract includes a buyout clause of 22 million euros.
The 28-year-old Bailey was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and made his professional debut for Genk in the Belgian First Division on August 21, 2015. He moved to Leverkusen for €16.7 million in January 2017 and has made 156 appearances for the team, contributing 39 goals and 25 assists.
In August 2021, Bailey joined Aston Villa for 32 million euros. To date, he has made 144 appearances for Villa, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists.
According to multiple sources, Roma paid Aston Villa a €2 million loan fee for the player, who they see as a potential replacement for Manchester United striker Jadon Sancho, who was previously rumored to have rejected a loan offer from Roma.
However, Bailey's start in Roma was not smooth: in his first training session after joining the team, he unfortunately suffered a muscle strain. Preliminary examinations showed that Bailey was expected to be out for about three weeks, missing at least the games against Bologna and Pisa.
