Manchester United announced on Friday that it has completed a contract extension with goalkeeper Tom Heaton. The new contract is extended by one year on the basis of the original framework and will be valid until June 30, 2026.
Tom Heaton, 39, was born in Manchester United's youth training, but never got a chance to play in the first team. He moved to Swindon, Royal Antwerp, Cardiff City, Queens Park Rangers, Rochdale, Wycombe Wanderers, Bristol City, Burnley, Aston Villa and many other teams until he returned to Manchester United as a free agent in 2021.
Heaton's tactical position at Manchester United is mainly as the second goalkeeper. So far, he has only played three times for Manchester United, all of which were kept scoreless.
After completing the contract extension, Tom Heaton said: "I am very proud to continue to represent Manchester United. As a team, we are looking forward to the new season. I am ready to support the team in every way possible and help the team return to the championship."
Manchester United sporting director Jason Wilcox added: “Tom’s leadership and experience will be vital to the team so we are delighted that he will remain with us next season. Tom’s mentality and preparation ensure he is always available when needed, making him an ideal addition to our goalkeeping team.”
