Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner face potential sacking after criticizing the management for his resentment over the impending sale of captain Marc Guehi..

The Athletic's resident renowned Crystal Palace team correspondent Matt Woosnam, reported on Saturday that Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is facing potential sacking after criticizing the management for his resentment over the impending sale of captain Marc Guehi.

According to Woosnam's report, Glasner, in an interview with Sky Sports after Crystal Palace's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland in the Premier League this weekend, said that he was only informed of Guehi's impending sale at 10:30 am the day before the match (Friday, January 16th, UK time).

He felt "completely abandoned" and indicated he wouldn't rule out not staying on until the end of the season.

Glasner harshly criticized the situation by saying: "I simply cannot understand why they would sell our captain the day before the match. We were preparing, and then yesterday morning at 10:30, I was told that our captain was going to be sold. Why not wait until next week? That way we could at least still play this match (with a plan). I'm really upset today."

"Twice a year, once in the summer when they sold Eze the day before a match, and now they've sold our captain the day before a match. It's heartbreaking. I can't understand it. I've been in football for over 30 years and I've never encountered anything like this before. Now it's happened twice in just six or seven months."

"We know we're in a bad situation. We understand the current circumstances. We have no available players, and now they have to sell our captain. I simply cannot understand it. Other teams' players leave the day after the match, but we sell them the day before the match?"

During this match, Glasner did not make any substitutions, and even included three academy players on the bench.

Regarding this, Glasner said: "We've only had 12 or 13 players available for several weeks now. Some of them have just played their 35th game. We played 50 to 60 minutes, performing exceptionally well, but then we fell behind in the next 20 minutes and conceded a goal. The players gave their all, but again, I couldn't provide them with any support from the bench."

"You saw it too, we didn't make any substitutions. Look at the bench, our forwards are all kids. I've said before, we feel completely abandoned."

Finally, when asked by reporters if he would remain in charge until the end of the season, Glasner hit out that, "I don't know. I admire these players very much. I have complete faith in them. Their character is outstanding."

"We will unite and turn things around. I will never back down because these players deserve a manager and leader like Oliver Glasner. I will. But then again, sometimes we need some support."

"If Crystal Palace feels comfortable ending the season like this, whether the manager is Oliver Glasner or someone else, I don't know, I don't care."

This loss means Crystal Palace have gone 10 games without a win.

Given the recent case of Ruben Amorim being sacked after criticizing the Manchester United management, Woosnam believes Glasner may follow suit.

As he had said, this is actually the second time this season that Glasner has criticized the management of the Premier League club for the sale of a key player the day before a match.

In August, Glasner also criticized Crystal Palace's management for selling England international attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze to Arsenal ahead of their Conference League match against Fredrikstad.

This was also the second time this season he had criticized the Crystal Palace management regarding the potential sale of Marc Guehi.

On last year's summer transfer window deadline day, Glasner threatened to resign immediately if Guehi was sold after Guehi had completed his medical, causing the England international center-back's transfer to Liverpool to fall through at the last minute.

On Friday, several British media outlets confirmed that Guehi was about to transfer to Manchester City for £20 million, and Glasner also confirmed that day that he would leave the club at the end of the season after his contract expired.
