Curry: I hope to return as soon as possible, but I won't take any risks

Stephen Curry said on Thursday that he will carefully evaluate the timing of his return based on his physical recovery to avoid aggravating his injury by rushing to return.

On May 6, local time, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-88 in the first game of the Western Conference semifinals. However, their star player Curry was suspected of straining his left hamstring with only 8 minutes and 48 seconds left in the second quarter, and chose to retire early after a short period of persistence. Before his injury, Curry played a total of 13 minutes, contributing 13 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

The results of the MRI showed that Curry suffered a first-grade strain in his left hamstring. He will be re-examined in a week and is expected to miss at least until Game 4 of the series. Currently, Curry is still unable to perform static shooting exercises.

"This is a new injury for me," Curry said before the Warriors' 117-93 Game 2 loss to the Timberwolves on Thursday. "Based on what I've learned so far, the premise of a quick return is to follow the body's natural recovery process. You can't force the recovery rhythm to speed up, you can only listen to the feedback from the body."

He added: "After a week, I will carefully evaluate the changes in the injury every day to determine when it is appropriate to start considering a comeback, not to mention whether I can withstand the intensity of the game."

Talking about the injury, Curry said: "Before the injury, I felt good throughout the game. Then I made a turn while defending, and then I started to feel some discomfort, but I didn't think there was any big problem at the time."

"I think I can deal with it, and then return to the court to continue playing after recovery. But soft tissue injuries are tricky to deal with. If I force myself to return to the court, it may aggravate the injury. This is indeed a big blow, but I still hope to return as soon as possible."

"The atmosphere in our locker room is very good, and my teammates are still working hard to hold on. We still believe that we can win the series, and everyone will step up at critical moments. Under the current circumstances, we can only maintain an optimistic and positive attitude, strive to win the game, and buy time for me to recover. I hope we can advance to the next round, so that I can return to the court after my body is fully recovered and there is no risk."

As for whether to consider returning early or playing with an injury, Curry replied: "Similar discussions will eventually start, but I am far from that stage now. Hamstring injuries are very tricky. Even if you don't feel any discomfort, it may not be truly healed. The vague stage in the recovery process is indeed confusing, but I will do my best to return early."

"If it was an ankle injury or something, I would be able to tell you very quickly when I would be back. However, this time I have no idea. I will not force myself to set any deadlines, I just hope to get better every day. I am also working with Rick Celebrini, the Warriors vice president of player health and performance, to rely on his expertise to do everything possible to promote recovery. This is our goal. When the time is right, I will naturally have a clear answer."
