The Dallas Mavericks officially announced that they have reached a multi-year contract extension with forward PJ Washington Jr.

Although the team did not disclose the terms of the contract, multiple media outlets reported that the extension is for four years, worth $90 million, and will keep Washington under contract through the 2029-30 season.

Since joining the Dallas Mavericks before the trade deadline in 2024, Washington has quickly become an indispensable part of the team. In just half a season after joining, he helped the team to a 22-9 record and advance to the finals.

Washington not only won fans favor with his clean play and accurate outside shooting, shooting 38.1% from three-point range last season, but also averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 57 games (56 starts) that season.

Against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Washington had a stunning performance of 22 points and 19 rebounds, becoming the first player since Elton Brand in the 2003-04 season to record a double-double in two consecutive games in Oklahoma City. In the 2024-25 season, Washington had a total of 14 double-doubles, also setting a personal record.

Washington has played in 390 games (320 starts) in his career, averaging 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. The Dallas Mavericks' contract extension further strengthens the team's forward position.

With the addition of No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving's return from injury in the future, Washington will continue to play an important role in helping the Dallas Mavericks strive for higher honors.
