Tottenham Hotspur plans to sign Portuguese defensive midfielder Joao Palinha permanently next summer, Sky Sports Germany reported on Tuesday.

Palinha joined Tottenham on loan from Bayern Munich this summer, with the contract valid until June 30, 2026. So far, he has made 11 appearances for Tottenham and contributed 3 goals.

Sky Sports Germany clearly stated that Tottenham Hotspur is very satisfied with Palinha's performance. They intend to trigger his buyout clause at the end of his loan period, which is expected to cost 25 million to 30 million euros.

The 30-year-old Palinha came through the youth academy of Sporting CP but spent his early career on loan at Moreirense, Belémín, and Braga to gain experience. He has established himself in the Sporting CP first team since the 2020/21 season, winning one Primeira Liga title, two Portuguese League Cups, and one Portuguese Super Cup with the team.

In July 2022, Palinha officially joined Fulham for €24.9 million. During his time at Fulham, he made 79 appearances in all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 1 assist.

In July 2024, Palinha transferred to Bayern Munich for 51 million euros. Due to his failure to integrate into Vincent Kompany's tactical system, he has only played 25 times for Bayern so far, including 11 substitute appearances in the Bundesliga and 3 substitute appearances in the Champions League.
