In an exclusive interview with Liverpool FC's official magazine, Japan international Wataru Endo discussed his summer interactions with new manager Arne Slaughter.
Endo said that in order to adapt to the new tactical system as quickly as possible, he took the initiative to seek communication with Slote during the pre-season training, and emphasized that he was willing to give his all for the team in any position.
"I took the initiative to meet with Arne to understand the kind of football he wanted to play and his tactical philosophy," Endo recalls. "During pre-season training camp, I worked hard to adapt because everyone needed to integrate into his system as quickly as possible."
In the summer of 2023, Endo was brought in by former manager Klopp and has been loved by fans for his tenacious defense and fighting spirit. Now, as Liverpool begins a new chapter under Slaughter, Endo has expressed his attitude without hesitation.
"I told him that I have no problem playing in any position," Endo said. "Whether I'm a number 6, right-back or centre-back, I will give 100 per cent to the team. I played centre-back in Japan and for me it doesn't matter where I play, what matters is playing for Liverpool."
"When the fans sang my name in the last 15 minutes of the game, especially when we were leading, the feeling was indescribable. I could feel their full support and it was a very special feeling."
Endo has become an indispensable member of the Liverpool squad, earning the trust of the coaching staff with his defensive toughness and the respect of the dressing room with his professionalism and team spirit. His attitude embodies the "everyone is a team" philosophy under Slaughter's management.
