Liverpool Football Club is deeply saddened to announce that former striker Bobby Graham passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 80. The club offers its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Born in Motherwell, Scotland, Graham joined Liverpool as a youth apprentice in 1960 and made his first-team debut four years later. His debut was a classic, scoring in Liverpool's first-ever European match at Anfield, a 6-1 victory over Reykjavik.
Just 12 days later, Graham scored a hat-trick in his league debut, helping Liverpool beat Aston Villa 5-1. At the age of 19, he became famous overnight.
Despite limited opportunities early on, the 1969-70 season proved to be the highlight of Graham's career. He played in all 54 games for Liverpool and finished as the club's top scorer with 21 goals.
Graham's Liverpool career was cut short when he suffered a broken leg in a match against Chelsea in October 1970. He returned to the team at the end of the season and scored another six goals, but he moved to Coventry City in March 1972, ending his time at Anfield.
During his time at Liverpool, Graham made 137 appearances and scored 42 goals. After leaving Liverpool, he also had a loan spell at Tranmere Rovers before returning to Scotland to continue his career with Motherwell and Hamilton College.
Graham will be remembered as a part of Liverpool's history, a man who wrote his own chapter with goals and passion, and left unforgettable memories for countless Anfield fans.
