Liverpool goalkeeper Freddie Woodman says playing in this week's Carabao Cup fourth round would be a very special moment in his career.
With goalkeeper Alisson Becker sidelined due to injury, Woodman, who joined on a free transfer in the summer, is expected to make his official debut after joining Liverpool in the home game against Crystal Palace.
The 28-year-old English goalkeeper told Liverpool's official website: "No matter which competition, as long as I can wear the jersey of this club, I will give my all and enjoy the moment. It is a very special experience for me to represent such a team with such a long history."
“The Carabao Cup has always been a priority for the club and when you walk down to Wembley you can see how much it means to the fans. In the goalkeeping area at the training centre I often see pictures of Claude Kelleher after his victory and it reminds us how much winning this trophy means to this club.”
"If you can help the team win trophies here, you can write your name into Liverpool's history. This opportunity means a lot to every player."
Woodman previously played for Newcastle United and went on loan several times. A goalkeeper who once represented England at youth level, he now enjoys training in a world-class environment. "I've been playing consistently over the past five or six years, mainly in the Championship, but also in the Premier League," Woodman said.
"When Liverpool approached me in the summer, my father told me it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down. I'm so glad I made the right decision."
