RB Leipzig announced on Sunday that Belgian midfielder Arthur Vermeulen has left the club on loan. He will play for Marseille until the end of the season and will wear the number 18 jersey.

According to Bild and other media outlets, Vermeer's loan fee is approximately €3 million, with a €21 million buyout clause in the contract. Including variable bonuses, his buyout price could reach as high as €23 million.

There are also reports that Vermeulen's salary will be fully borne by Marseille.

The 20-year-old Vermeulen, a product of Royal Antwerp's youth academy, made his professional debut in a UEFA Europa League qualifier on August 11, 2022. He made 66 appearances for Antwerp, contributing three goals and eight assists, winning the Belgian First Division title, the Belgian Cup, and the Belgian Super Cup.

In January 2024, Vermeulen moved to Atlético Madrid for €20 million. He made just five appearances for Atlético before joining RB Leipzig on a loan-to-buy basis. To date, the Belgian has made 39 appearances for the club, providing two assists.

Regarding the decision to loan Vermeulen to Marseille, RB Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schäfer explained: "Arthur is a very talented young player who needs more game time at his age. Therefore, we have developed a plan with the Marseille club to enable Arthur to continue to grow in the top league next season and compete in European competitions. We wish Arthur all the best during his loan period."
