Hawks officially re-sign Dyson Daniels for 4 years and $100 million to lock in core player

On October 21, ESPN reporter Shams Charania reported that the Atlanta Hawks and guard Dayshon Daniels reached an early contract extension worth $100 million over four years. Previously, Daniels won the NBA Most Improved Player (MIP) award for his comprehensive outbreak in the 2024-25 season.
Prior to joining the Hawks, Daniels played for the New Orleans Pelicans, where he averaged a mediocre 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game over two seasons. After being traded to the Hawks last summer, he was named a starter and transformed. Last season, he averaged 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, and led the league with 3 steals per game .
Daniels' field goal percentage increased to 49.3% and his three-point percentage reached 34% , significantly higher than his Pelicans season. Defensively, he not only excelled in steals but also ranked 18th in the league with 3.7 defensive win shares. He finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, behind only Evan Mobley , and was ultimately named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.
The 22- year -old Daniels was the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft . With this extension, he will continue to be a key member of the Hawks' young core.
