Inter Milan announced on Tuesday that it has parted ways with head coach Simone Inzaghi effective immediately.
The 49-year-old Inzaghi has taken over Inter Milan since 2021. So far, he has led the team to 141 wins, 41 draws and 35 losses, winning 1 Serie A title, 2 Italian Cup titles and 3 Italian Super Cup titles. During his tenure, he also led the team to the Champions League final twice, but lost to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain and finished second.
Gazzetta dello Sport pointed out that the disastrous defeat in the Champions League final and the huge pressure accumulated during his tenure as Inter Milan finally prompted Inzaghi to make the decision to leave. On Tuesday, he met with Inter Milan chairman Giuseppe Marotta and confirmed that the two sides would no longer cooperate.
Regarding Inzaghi's departure, Inter Milan Chairman Giuseppe Marotta said: "On behalf of our shareholder Oak Capital and the entire club, I would like to sincerely thank Simone Inzaghi for his dedication and passion for Inter Milan, as well as his frank attitude in today's talks. It is this frankness that made us jointly decide to part ways. Only by fighting side by side with each other and fighting for victory day after day can we have such a frank dialogue as today. "
”
Later, Inzaghi published a farewell letter through Inter Milan's official website. The letter read: "For me, the time has come to say goodbye to the club. I have given my all in the past four years."
“My first and last thought every day is Inter. The players, the club management and all the staff responded to my efforts with professionalism and passion.”
“We have won six trophies, including the Serie A title, which symbolizes the ‘second star’, as well as the Champions League in 2023 and the one that ended a few days ago. All of this is a strong testimony to the unity of my coaching staff and all the members of Inter Milan.”
"I want to thank our shareholders for their continued trust and the Chairman and his team for their support and communication day after day. On a difficult day like today, I feel the need to express my heartfelt gratitude again, including for the conversation we just had. We had a frank and honest conversation and have decided together to end this wonderful journey."
“Finally, I want to express my gratitude to the millions of Inter fans who encouraged me in difficult moments, cried and suffered with me, laughed and celebrated the six victories we experienced together. I will never forget you.”
"Come on, Inter Milan!"
Many signs indicate that Inzaghi will join Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal next. According to Fabrizio Romano, he has signed a contract with Al-Hilal until June 2027, with a net income of 26 million euros per season.
There are also reports that Inzaghi will go to the United States immediately after completing the termination procedures with Inter Milan to lead Riyadh Crescent to prepare for the Club World Cup.
