The Los Angeles Lakers released a statement on Friday announcing the completion of the contract extension with Rob Pelinka. At the same time, Pelinka was officially promoted to president of basketball operations and general manager.
Rob Pelinka, 55, was once a well-known NBA agent, with clients including Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant, Chris Bosh, Andre Iguodala, James Harden and many other stars. He became the general manager of the Lakers in 2017 and served as vice president of basketball operations since 2020.
Under Pelinka's operation, the Lakers won the NBA championship in 2020. He also led a number of blockbuster trades, including the introduction of stars such as LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and traded Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks this season.
Regarding Pelinka's retention, Lakers owner and president Jeanie Buss said: "Over the past eight seasons, I have always trusted Rob's vision and leadership and believed that he would make the best decisions for the Lakers. I value his spirit of cooperation and professionalism, and I firmly believe that he has the ability to bring championship-level basketball performance to Los Angeles and Lakers fans for generations to come."
