Liverpool announced on its official website on Saturday that the club has extended the contract of its Netherlands international forward Cody Gakpo.
According to Liverpool's official statement, Gakpo has signed on a new long-term six-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2031.
After completing the contract extension, Gakpo, who was interviewed by the Liverpool official website again, said: "It's amazing to be signing a new deal with this great club. I'm very grateful and look forward to many more great years with the team."
"I feel at home, and my family feels at home too. This was always a big decision for me, and they're all happy. I'm very happy at the club. There's a great team here, great teammates, so football itself is a great life, and I'm enjoying every moment of it. I'm very grateful to have renewed my contract."
"Obviously, my goal is to win more trophies with the club and the team."
"I think we have a very good squad at the moment, and I think we're going to have a great squad. I'm very happy." We are striving for another great season. About Cody Gakpo
Gakpo, 26, was born on May 7, 1999, in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He is 1.93 meters tall, he primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play center forward. He holds dual Dutch and Surinamese citizenship. His older brother, Sidney, is a forward at Dutch non-league level, and his cousin, Gino Verhulst, currently plays in the PSV Eindhoven youth academy as an attacking midfielder.
As a youngster, Gakpo played for the youth academy of FC PSV Eindhoven before joining their city rivals, PSV Eindhoven's youth academy, in 2007. He began playing for the club's reserve team in the summer of 2016 and completed his PSV Eindhoven first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in February 2018.
Since his debut, Gakpo's prolific goalscoring prowess has quickly attracted interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United.
In January 2023, Gakpo joined Liverpool for £44.3 million, becoming the second-most expensive striker in Dutch football history.
Since joining the Reds, so far, Gakpo has made 131 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 42 goals and providing 19 assists. During which he has won the Premier League once, the Carabao Cup once, and reached the FA Cup quarterfinals, the Europa League quarterfinals, and the Champions League round of 16s once each with the club.
