Manchester City assistant coach Pepyon Leanders dropped a bombshell in an interview, hinting that the team's midfield maestro and captain Bernardo Silva will end his nine-year Manchester City career this summer.
Following Manchester City's 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over giants Liverpool, assistant coach Lindez attended the post-match press conference in place of manager Pep Guardiola, who was suspended from the sidelines.
When discussing Silva's future, Lindez was very candid and emotional. He stated frankly, "Every good story has an ending, and I hope he can enjoy his last few months here. With only six weeks left and a dignified and beautiful farewell, he deserves everyone's respect and attention."
Silva's contract with Manchester City expires at the end of this season, and the two sides have yet to reach a renewal agreement. It is understood that Silva has been linked with La Liga giants Barcelona, Serie A side Juventus, and several Major League Soccer clubs.
Since joining Manchester City from Monaco in 2017, Silva has made 450 appearances for the team, winning 18 trophies. As the most-capped key player in Guardiola's managerial career, he wore the captain's armband last season after De Bruyne's departure.
Linds gave Silva extremely high praise, emphasizing that he is a unique and irreplaceable absolute core: "His ability to control the pace of the game, find space and answers, and his outstanding leadership are breathtaking. Losing him would be very difficult; you would feel the pain of missing him after just one game, let alone the long season."
Regarding the midfield void left by Silva's departure, Linds stated that Manchester City cannot find a completely identical replacement in the transfer market. The club's future focus will be on the academy's young players and the young players already signed, hoping they can step up and complete a smooth transition between generations under the guidance of veteran players.
