Manchester City youngster Nico O'Reilly said that getting consistent playing time in the team is a key factor in the continuous improvement of on-field chemistry.
In the first half of the 2025-26 season, this academy graduate has become the first-choice left-back under manager Pep Guardiola, playing in 23 of the team's 26 matches and gradually establishing his unshakeable position.
As his playing time increased, O'Reilly's partnership with his teammates became increasingly refined. In particular, he formed a stable left-wing combination with left center-back Josko Gwadiol and left winger Jeremy Doku, becoming a crucial pillar of Manchester City's overall performance this season.
The three players' mutual understanding and coverage on both ends of the pitch have enabled the team to maintain strong momentum on multiple fronts. Currently, Manchester City is in a favorable position in both the Premier League and the Champions League, and has also successfully reached the League Cup semi-finals.
O'Reilly pointed out that playing together frequently allows the players to quickly build rapport: "When you play with the same teammates every two or three days, the connection between you naturally forms."
On the offensive end, O'Reilly also felt an improvement in the team's overall understanding. He stated that when the team advanced to the vicinity of the penalty area, the players were able to quickly anticipate each other's runs and choices. Whether it was the impact of center forward Haaland or the dribbling ability of the wingers, the teamwork was much smoother.
Speaking about recent form, O'Reilly believes this is exactly the collective improvement the team needs. Although Manchester City are currently second in the Premier League table, only two points behind leaders Arsenal, he is unwilling to discuss their title prospects too early. Facing a busy schedule ahead, he emphasized that the team will continue to focus on each game at hand.
“The season is still long, and we will take it one game at a time,” O’Reilly said. “If we want to remain competitive at the end of the season, we must fight for victory in every game.”
