With Paris Saint-Germain set to travel to the United States in a week's time to compete in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, team captain Marquinhos spoke to FIFA about this brand new tournament and shared his thoughts.  

Paris Saint-Germain will face Atletico Madrid. Marquinhos said: "This is a tournament that all clubs are eager to participate in. The new competition system makes the competition more exciting, with top teams gathering together and many strong teams that are rarely seen in normal times. Just like our attitude towards every tournament, Paris Saint-Germain has a clear goal and vows to be a strong contender for the championship. We know the journey is long and full of challenges, but we can't wait to start the competition."  

“The United States is an ideal place to host this new event. I have traveled to the United States many times on behalf of the national team and the football atmosphere there is very strong. The United States has many passionate fans and spectators come from all over the world. I believe this event will be an exciting adventure.”  

“I’m sure the enthusiasm will be wonderful, with clubs from all over the world participating in this tournament. I expect huge numbers of fans to attend the matches in person, and for those who can’t, to watch them live from home. With the lack of other major tournaments this summer, the FIFA Club World Cup will undoubtedly be the focal point for fans. No matter which team they support, all fans will be watching this spectacular event.”  

Marquinhos added: "Luis Enrique is undoubtedly one of the top coaches in the world and he proves this every day with his coaching philosophy. He is strict with his team, has a direct style and always injects new energy into the team."
