NBA legend Nowitzki recently talked about Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg in an interview and encouraged the young player to learn more from the senior players on the team.
The 18-year-old Cooper Flagg was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the first pick in the 2025 NBA Draft due to his outstanding performance, and then signed with the Dallas Mavericks.
Cooper Flagg from Maine played 31 games for Duke University in the 2024/25 season, averaging 19.2 points per game and a 3-point shooting percentage of 38.5%.
Dallas Mavericks legend Nowitzki said, "I haven't officially met Cooper Flagg yet, but we exchanged text messages after he was selected. I welcomed him to the city and told him that if he needed anything, I would be here and happy to help. He then replied and said thank you very much and hoped to keep in touch in the future."
"I'm not sure how much advice I can give him, except to keep his eyes and ears sharp and keep learning from the veteran players. He's on a team with Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis, who have been playing for a long time."
In addition, Nowitzki also emphasized, "There is a lot of knowledge worth learning there, so ask more questions, including what they prepare before the game? What do they eat? How do they prepare for the game? How do they deal with various activities and how do they interact with the media."
"I think that would be my advice, learn as much as you can, absorb everything, and then use it when it's appropriate, and find your own habits and your own leadership style, and also be as authentic as possible."
