The Daily Mail's resident renowned English Newcastle United team correspondent Craig Hope, exclusively reported on Thursday that England international forward Anthony Gordon has personally refuted fake news which claimed that he will transfer to Arsenal this summer.
According to Hope's report, Gordon was asked about the rumours by journalist after Newcastle United's 3-2 (9-3 aggregate) UEFA Champions League Round of 16 play-off match win against Qarabağ on Wednesday. He responded with disbelief, angrily declaring, "it's a load of rubbish!"
He said, he has always focused on performing his best for the club. Gordon also sarcastically remarked that after years in the industry, many times the transfer rumours surrounding him still "only come to him through the fake news which were published."
Gordon hit out, "It's the same old, same old old fashioned stories. In short, I haven't heard anything. They (the rumour-mongers) probably wanted to tell me (through this manner) first, then you (the media). I've been through too many transfer rumours; after a while, I know it's a load of rubbish."
"I'm focused on myself, on the team, on the present. Thinking too far ahead will only affect my performance. Believe me, I've made that mistake before, and I will never make it again."
Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the culprit which fabricated this fake news that claimed that Gordon would transfer to Arsenal this summer is once again a regular contributor our website's "Daily Slap in the Party" regular representative, British fake news specialist The Sun.
On February 20, 2026, The Sun falsely claimed to have received "insider information," alleging that "Arsenal have taken the lead in the race to sign Gordon this summer and are poised to sign the former Everton player for £75 million."
The article even falsely claimed that the Gunners had surpassed Liverpool and Manchester United in the race, who were also interested in signing him.
Liverpool were indeed once linked with signing Gordon, a lifelong supporter of the club and a product of their youth academy.
However, in reality, Newcastle wanted to sign Gordon's international teammate, England international defender Joe Gomez, and proposed a swap deal involving Gordon to "mutually benefit each other's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) limits."
However, this proposal was quickly rejected by Liverpool as unrealistic.
It's worth mentioning that, knowing the rumour were fake, Sky Sports still deliberately created a special program and invited two "transfer experts" to discuss the matter.
One of these "experts," Jonathan Liew, a Malaysian/Singaporean Chinese journalist residing in Edinburgh, Scotland, is known for his tactical analysis but also for his self-contradictory and morally ambiguous comments on various controversial football topics. He's infamous for his ignorance of transfer rumours yet pretentious pronouncements.
Sky Sports' actions were not only unnecessary but also a classic example of "outsiders telling insiders what's what!"
This is the second time Gordon has been falsely claimed to have gauged the transfer interest of Arsenal interest in him, following two years ago when our website's infamous female rumour monger "Ms. Hype Up" claimed that "Arsenal are interested in signing him, but the deal might not happen until next summer (2025)."
Even more appalling is that someone actually edited together this pointless "special program" from Sky Sports and uploaded it to our website's "Match Highlights" section to "show their utter lack of decency," which is truly mind-blowingly apalling!
About Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon, 25, was born on February 24, 2001, in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily plays as a left winger, but can also play as a right winger or center forward. He has Irish and Scottish ancestry.
A lifelong Liverpool fan, Gordon joined the club's renowned youth academy at Melwood when he was young. Released at age 11, he joined the youth academy of their city rivals, Everton, before completing making his Everton first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Europa League match in December 2017.
On the 2021 winter transfer window deadline day, Gordon was loaned-out to Preston North End. During his time there, his impressive performances attracted the attention of Chelsea.
The following summer, in an attempt to force a transfer, Gordon not only submitted a transfer request to Everton but also faked injury and illness, earning him the reputation of a traitor among Everton fans and management.
In late January 2023, Gordon to moved to Newcastle United for £40 million.
In February of this year, Gordon scored four goals in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16s play-off match against Qarabağ, breaking the record to become the first player in Newcastle's team history to score four goals in a single Champions League match.
Since joining the Magpies, Gordon has made 144 appearances for the new Premier League giants in all competitions so far, scoring 36 goals and providing 28 assists, where he has also helped the club win the Carabao Cup once, ending a 70-year major domestic titles drought.
