Newcastle United announced on their official website on Sunday that the club has signed English midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.
According to a Newcastle United's official statement, Ramsey has signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029. He will also wear the number 41 jersey.
After completing his joining procedures, Ramsey, who was interviewed by the Newcastle United official website for the first time, said: "I'm delighted to be here. It's been a bit of a crazy two or three days, but I'm really happy to be here and can't wait to start my new life."
"This is a big move for me, but once I knew the manager was interested and really liked me, I made a quick decision. His experience in developing players, especially those who go on to make the national team, speaks for itself."
"Villa's games against Newcastle are always tough. The team is energetic and athletic, and the fans are passionate. I feel my skillset is perfect for that style, and I'm excited to be on the other side."
About Jacob Ramsey
Ramsey, 24, was born on May 28, 2001, in Birmingham, England. He is 1.8 meters tall and primarily plays as a left midfielder, but can also play as an attacking midfielder. He is of Jamaican descent. His younger brothers, Aaron and Cole, are also professional footballers. Aaron currently plays for Burnley, while Cole is in the Aston Villa youth academy. All three brothers came through the Villa youth academy.
Ramsey joined Aston Villa's youth academy alongside his younger brothers at a young age, and completed his Aston Villa first-team debut by coming on as a substitute against West Bromwich Albion in February 2019, aged just 17.
The following January, Ramsey was loaned-out to Doncaster Rovers, but his loan was terminated prematurely due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
After returning from his loan, Ramsey officially became a key player in Aston Villa's first-team squad in the summer of 2020.
During his six-year spell with the club, Ramsey made 167 appearances across all competitions for the Premier League powerhouse, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists.
