Atletico Madrid announced on Tuesday that it had officially bought out Atalanta's on-loan goalkeeper Juan Musso. The two sides signed a three-year contract valid until June 30, 2028.
Although the transfer was completed in the form of a buyout, Atletico did not trigger Musso's mandatory buyout clause of about 7 million euros. According to Marcos Duran, a reporter from AS, they actually paid a transfer fee of 3 million euros, with an additional floating clause of 1 million euros.
The 31-year-old Musso was born in Puerto San Nicolas, Argentina, and made his professional debut for Avellaneda on May 28, 2017. He landed in Serie A in July 2018 and played for Udinese and Atalanta.
In four seasons at Atalanta, Musso made a total of 99 appearances, kept 32 clean sheets and won the 2023/24 Europa League. As Atalanta preferred to use 24-year-old Marco Canesechi as the main goalkeeper, Musso joined Atletico Madrid on loan for 1.5 million euros in July last year.
So far, Musso has played 11 times for Atletico Madrid, keeping seven clean sheets. He is the second goalkeeper of the team after Jan Oblak.
