Marseille announced on their official website on Wednesday that they have appointed former Rennes head coach Habib Beye as their new head coach.
According to Marseille's official statement, Beye has signed on a 18-month contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2027.
This will be Beye's return to Marseille after 19 years.
As a player, Beye made 174 appearances for Marseille in all competitions between 2003 and 2007, scoring 2 goals and providing 7 assists, winning the Coupe de France once with the club.
Marseille's former Italian head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, recently resigned abruptly due to differences in philosophy.
About Habib Beye
The 48-year-old Beye was born on October 19, 1977, in Surrey, France. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily played as a right-back, but could also play as a center-back. He has played for Paris Saint-Germain, Strasbourg, Marseille, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Doncaster Rovers. He holds dual French and Senegalese citizenship and is also a Senegalese international.
After retiring, Beye served as head coach of Red Star from 2021 to 2024, helping the club win the Championnat National title once.
On January 31, 2025, Beyer was appointed Rennes head coach, replacing Argentine head coach Jorge Sampaoli.
However, after Rennes went five games without a win, and his relationship with several key veterans deteriorated to a breaking point, losing control of the dressing room, Beye was sacked on February 10, 2026.
During his time with Les Rouge et Noirs, Beye managed the Ligue 1 powerhouse in 39 matches across all competitions, achieving 18 wins, 7 draws, and 14 losses, with a win percentage of 46.15%.
