Union Berlin officially announced on Thursday that it had reached an agreement with captain Christoph Trimmel on a contract extension. Kicker, a veteran German football magazine, said the new contract will be extended from 2025 to June 30, 2026.
The 38-year-old Christopher Trimmel plays as a right back and right midfielder. He quickly joined Berlin United from Vienna on a free transfer in July 2014. He currently holds the team's appearance record with 355 appearances, and has contributed 6 goals and 65 assists.
After completing the contract extension, Trimmel said: "I have worn the Union Berlin jersey for many years, but it still means a lot every time I put it on. Together we have created and celebrated countless extraordinary achievements and pushed the club to the heights it is today."
“Union Berlin is much more than a club for me, it has become my second home. That’s why I’m very happy to continue to be part of this history and to work hard with the team day in and day out to show the best possible Union Berlin.”
Horst Herdt, head of professional football at Union Berlin, said: "Christopher is almost a symbol of Union Berlin, and no other player can compare to him. He is a role model both on and off the pitch, bringing stability to the team and contributing his rich experience. His meaning for the club goes far beyond the sporting field. In today's professional football world, few players can establish such a deep emotional bond with the club. We are very happy that we can continue to rely on him in the future."
