According to multiple media reports, the Oklahoma City Thunder have reached an agreement with All-Star forward Jalen Williams on a five-year, rookie maximum salary extension worth up to $287 million.
This extension was announced right after center Chet Holmgren signed a five-year, $240 million rookie-level contract. Adding to the four-year, $285 million extension reached earlier with the team's absolute core, Kia MVP, Finals MVP and scoring champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Oklahoma City Thunder has completed the long-term binding of the "Big Three" in just a few weeks.
Williams broke out in the 2024-25 season, averaging 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 48.4% and a three-point shooting percentage of 36.5%. Not only was he selected to the All-Star Game for the first time, he was also shortlisted for the NBA's third team and the best defensive second team, which can be said to be both offensive and defensive.
Williams continued to perform steadily during the Oklahoma City Thunder's championship journey, averaging 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the playoffs. He made a key contribution in Game 7 of the Finals, scoring 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals to help the team beat the Indiana Pacers 103-91 and top the league.
With Gilgeous-Alexander, Holmgren and Williams all signing new contracts, the Oklahoma City Thunder have successfully locked in their core lineup until at least 2027, laying a solid foundation for continued championship contention.
