Newly promoted Bundesliga club Cologne announced on Tuesday that they have loaned Palermo left-back Christopher Lund until the end of the 2025/26 season. Lund will wear the number 32 jersey at Cologne and the contract includes a buyout clause.
Regarding Lund's arrival, Cologne's sporting director Thomas Kessler commented: "Christopher is exactly the left-wing player we urgently need. He combines defensive stability with the ability to advance forward, and his mentality is highly consistent with our requirements for this position. Despite his young age, he already has valuable international competition experience. His energy further enriches our tactical options on the left flank."
"With his arrival, we have specifically improved the overall quality and competitiveness of the left-back position - which is an important part of our squad construction."
Lund, 23, was born in Kerteminde, Denmark, and holds dual US and Danish citizenship. He joined Midtjylland's youth system at the age of 13 and made his first-team debut in the Danish Cup quarter-finals on February 11, 2021.
After leaving Midtjylland, Lund played for Hirken in Sweden for about two years and moved to Palermo for 2.7 million euros in August 2023. To date, he has made 72 appearances for Palermo, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists.
Joining Cologne means Lund has officially entered the top five leagues. He said: "After learning about the offer, I immediately learned more about Cologne - it is a traditional and powerful club with a long history and a huge fan base."
"My communication with the club's management went very smoothly. Furthermore, Cologne is competing in one of Europe's top leagues, the Bundesliga. I feel I am ready and want to prove myself in Cologne – so I chose to join."
