In the 16th round of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Chelsea defeated Everton 2-0 at home. With this victory, they returned to the top four of the league with a record of 8 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses, accumulating 28 points.
Everton started strong and threatened the home team's goal in the 20th minute: James Garner passed the ball to the right wing just past midfield, and Iliman Ndiaye's low shot was saved by Robert Sanchez. Chelsea immediately launched a counter-attack and took the lead in less than two minutes: Marlo Gusto's precise through ball on the right wing found the advancing Cole Palmer, who slotted home his first goal since returning from injury.
Chelsea had several chances to extend their lead afterward, but squandered them all. In the 23rd minute, João Pedro evaded his marker and passed to the left wing, where Alejandro Ganacho burst into the box but his shot went over the crossbar. He then had an open goal opportunity due to a misplaced back pass from Carlos Alcaraz, but his shot narrowly missed. In the 29th minute, Pedro Neto delivered a cross from the right side of the box, and Enzo Fernandez's header was saved by Jordan Pickford.
In the 45th minute, Neto cut the ball back from the right flank, and Gusto finished it off to score again. Thanks to goals from Palmer and Gusto, Chelsea led 2-0 at halftime.
After the break, both sides repeatedly missed scoring opportunities. In the 48th minute, Enzo crossed from the right wing at a 45-degree angle, but Ganacho's shot went wide. In the 55th minute, Robert Sanchez's long pass found Ganacho in the attacking third, but the latter, having beaten the offside trap, missed the opportunity. In the 67th minute, Jack O'Brien crossed from the right wing at a 45-degree angle, but Jack Grealish's header in the penalty area went just over the bar. In the 72nd minute, Alcaraz crossed from the right wing, but Grealish's close-range sliding shot also failed to find the net.
In the 75th minute, Chelsea won a free kick on the left side of the attacking third. Reece James took the free kick, but his shot was tipped over the bar by Pickford. In the 87th minute, Ndiaye received a pass from Alcaraz and broke into the penalty area, then fired a low shot that hit the right post.
Neither side managed to score again. At the final whistle, Chelsea secured a resounding victory, ending their four-game winless streak.
