Bayern Munich officially announced on Thursday that they will bring back Noel Asseko from Hannover 96 this summer. According to the long-established German football magazine Kicker, they have activated the €1.5 million buy-back clause in Asseko's contract.
Asekho's loan spell at Hannover was originally set to expire in June, prompting the club to trigger the €1 million buy-out clause in his contract ahead of schedule. Bayern Munich, however, has now exercised their buy-back option, ensuring Asekho's return to the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old Asekor came through Bayern Munich's youth academy and joined Hannover 96 on loan in January 2025. To date, he has made 27 appearances for Hannover, scoring 3 goals and providing 5 assists.
Hannover's general manager, Jörg Schmatk, expressed deep regret over Bayern's decision to buy back Noel: "Noel has made great strides at Hannover, both on the competitive and personal level. The necessary paperwork has been completed. We will continue to communicate with the player and Bayern Munich, and anything is still possible."
Asekor will have the opportunity to prove himself during the preseason after his return to the team, but his future remains uncertain. He is expected to fill the void left by Leon Goretzka's departure this summer, but the possibility of Bayern loaning him out again or selling him for a high price cannot be ruled out.
Thanks to his consistent performances during his loan spell, Asekho has attracted the attention of several clubs. Multiple sources indicate that Brighton and West Ham United of the English Premier League have both expressed strong interest in him.
