The German Football Association (DFB) officially announced on Tuesday the appointment of Alfred Schreder as assistant coach to national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann. He will begin his tenure with two friendly matches against Switzerland and Ghana in March, and will remain in his position until the end of this year's World Cup.

Nagelsmann is no stranger to Schreider, and the two developed a deep friendship during their two years working together at Hoffenheim. After completing the signing, he stated in a press release: "I greatly admire Alfred's abilities as a coach and as an individual. His wealth of experience will be of great benefit to the team's preparations for the upcoming World Cup. We decided to hire him as an expert to join the coaching staff so that Maz Butgret can focus on instructing set-piece tactics in training. We anticipate that set-piece tactics will be a crucial part of this summer's World Cup, and therefore chose to intensify training during the preparation period."

The 53-year-old Schreed previously served as an assistant coach at Vitesse, Twente, Hoffenheim, and Ajax, helping several managers win two Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cup titles, two Dutch Super Cup titles, and one Copa del Rey title. He also independently managed Twente, Hoffenheim, Club Brugge, Ajax, Al Ain, Al-Nassr, and Direwo, leading Club Brugge to the Belgian First Division title in the 2021/22 season.

Regarding the appointment, Schreder said: "We had a very pleasant working relationship at Hoffenheim and built a deep trust between us. He was a young coach at the time, and he won my approval with his courage, ambition and professionalism. We have kept in touch since then. I am honored that Julian and his team invited me to assist in the preparations for the World Cup."
