According to ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks are exploring the possibility of trading for Anthony Davis.
Since the firing of General Manager Nico Harrison, the Mavericks' management has begun to re-evaluate the team's future direction. Regarding Anthony Davis's future, there are currently two diametrically opposed opinions. On one hand, Mavericks minority shareholder Mark Cuban confirmed to The TA via email: "We will not trade Anthony Davis. We want to win."
On the other hand, Shams Charania gave a different answer after Cuban's statement. He stated clearly on ESPN's "NBA Today": "This team has gradually moved away from the 3-4 year championship window planned by Nico Harrison and is now seeking more lasting success. Next, they will try to build the team around Cooper Flagg and other young players."
Charania added, "The Mavericks will listen to trade offers for Anthony Davis to assess his value. Health is the most critical factor—the Mavericks will be watching Davis's performance on the court long-term, and other teams will also be watching his condition after his return and the team's overall situation afterward. A lot of follow-up evaluation work is necessary."
Various signs indicate that after putting Davis on the trading block, the Mavericks may take the opportunity to deal with more veterans, including PJ Washington, Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson, and even All-Star guard Kyrie Irving.
Davis, 32, has been plagued by calf injuries since joining the Mavericks, playing only 14 regular season games so far, averaging 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. The Mavericks have struggled during his absence, currently sitting at 4 wins and 11 losses, ranking 13th in the Western Conference.
