According to a report by ESPN's Shams Charania on Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers have signed Drew Timmy to a two-way contract.
Timmy plays for the Lakers' G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, this season. He has appeared in 6 games so far, averaging 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1 steal per game. He has also performed well in training, including practicing alongside LeBron James during his rehabilitation training with the South Bay Lakers.
To make room for Timmy Thompson, the Lakers waived center Christian Koloko. He was seen as a backup for Jaxson Hayes and is expected to get some playing time while Deandre Ayton is sidelined with injury.
Timmy, 25, is a 2.06-meter tall, 107-kilogram power forward who played for the Gonzaga Bulldogs in NCAA Division I during his college years. He led Gonzaga in scoring with 2,307 points during his four years at Gonzaga and was named the West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Year twice.
Timmy entered the 2023 NBA Draft but was ultimately not selected. He then chose to play in the G League, where he has played for the Wisconsin Bucks, Stockton Kings, Long Island Nets, and South Bay Lakers.
However, Timmy is not without NBA experience. In March of this year, he played nine regular season games for the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
